Election Results

Many thanks to those who helped me throughout my campaign for the office of 65th State Representative District. I need your continued support. We have to do it again to defeat my Democrat opponent in November.

Congratulations to the following:
Brad Wenstrup is our Republican nominee for the 2nd Congressional District.
Vince Faris will be our new Clermont County Prosecutor.
Clerk of Common Pleas Barb Wiedenbein will be retained.
Joe Uecker appears to have won the 14th Senate District
Doug Green is our Republican nominee for the 66th State Representative District.
Scott Nichols has won the popular vote for the office of 14th Senate District Republican State Central Committeeman.
David Uible was selected by the Clermont County Central Committee to replace Archie Wilson as County Commissioner.
Peter Stautberg and Lou Blessing III won their House seats in Hamilton County.

Kudos to Ohio GOP Chairman, Kevin DeWine

Rather than continuing to fight the battle that has divided the Ohio GOP, Chairman DeWine has decided to take the high road and not run for re-election in January 2013.

You may have noticed a few changes to The Becker Report. Technically, this is my last issue as a member of the Republican State Central Committee. It is also my first issue as the Republican nominee for the office of 65th District State Representative. I thought it was time for a new look. I'm also experimenting with a new process for creating it.
I'm still trying to work through some "behind the scenes" issues with the mechanics of the production and distribution of the newsletter. None of it is automated. To be frank, I'm simply too cheap to pay for it. It has been a challenge to maintain a growing distribution list, write the newsletter, get it properly formatted, and then distribute it to about 770 people monthly without incurring any costs beyond by website hosting fee. For the last few years, my process has been as follows:

  1. Use Word 2010 to write and format the newsletter
  2. Save as PDF to attach to distribution
  3. Save as filtered HTML for the BeckerGOP web site
  4. Use Outlook 2010 to maintain the distribution list as a category called "Becker Report"
  5. Copy and paste newsletter into GoDaddy web mail
  6. Drag "Becker Report" category from Outlook contacts to Excel 2010
  7. Delete all columns except for e-mail addresses
  8. Create eight columns of e-mail addresses of about 90, or so, each
  9. Copy and paste the first column into Outlook mail
  10. Cut and paste comma separated e-mail addresses into bcc field of GoDaddy web mail
  11. After attaching the PDF version, It is ready to send to the first group of 90ish
  12. Repeat steps 5, 9, 10, and 11 seven more times and set timer to send one group per hour

Once the newsletter is written and formatting issues resolved, it only takes about an hour for the distribution process. (I then find my 15-year-old daughter to help me figure out how to get it onto the BeckerGOP web site.) My formatting issues can be horrifying. When I paste the newsletter from Word into GoDaddy web mail, the results can range from acceptable to unreadable. (I call this step paste and pray.) Strange things happen that I'm not smart enough to understand. Effective with the March edition, I'm experimenting with using Dreamweaver CS 5.5 to strip out extraneous HTML code. The plan is to copy it from Word to a Dreamweaver HTML page, back to Word, and then into GoDaddy web mail. I don’t know why I can’t copy it from Dreamweaver and paste it into web mail. The formatting gets lost. Hey, I do the best I can with the tools and knowledge that I have. I’m open to suggestions.

Becker for the 65th State Representative District
The election will be November 6th. I’ve raised over $31,000 and expanded my donor base to more than 330 people in six different states! Donation size has ranged from $1 to $1,000 and has averaged $57. Nearly all contributions have been from individuals only. You could donate for FREE! You may know that a $50 per taxpayer dollar-for-dollar tax CREDIT (It is $100 on a joint return.) is available every year. The “Ohio political contributions credit” is on line 55 of your Ohio IT 1040. Simply claim it on your state of Ohio tax return and get your money back. Contributions to candidates for State Representative (and other "state offices") qualify for this credit. That is why you will be able to help me, to help you, and have it cost you nothing.
