Union Township messaging will hopefully bring awareness to the litter problem and make our community a cleaner place to live, work, and play.

The following is where I’ve been picking up trash (servant leadership):
2026 Activity
June 21 – I worked Rumpke Road from Fox Creek to Old SR 74, continued along Old SR 74 from the creek to Eastgate Boulevard, a short section of Eastgate Boulevard as far as Office Max, and Aicholtz Road from the Civic Center to Mt. Carmel Tobasco Road.
April 25 – As usual, I started at the bottom of Rumpke Road and worked Old SR 74 from beyond Eastgate Boulevard to the creek.
From there I worked both sides of Aicholtz Road from the Civic Center to Glen Este Withamsville Road, including the roundabouts.
April 11 – Old SR 74 from Glen Este Withamsville Road to the I-275 overpass. Additionally, I did the bottom of Rumpke Road from Fox Creek down to Old SR 74.
March 14 – I worked my usual area along Rumpke Road from Fox Creek to Old SR 74. From there, I worked Old SR 74 to the creek and back up to Eastgate Boulevard.
Feeling ambitious, I then tackled Eastgate Boulevard all the way to Aicholtz Road. I also worked the ODOT areas inside the entrance ramp loops to SR 32.
February 21 – The bottom of Rumpke Road from Fox Creek to Old SR 74, and from Eastgate Boulevard to a little east of the creek below Rumpke Road.

2025 Summary
I went out on 13 different occasions collecting roadside trash. The areas included sections of Rumpke Road, Locust Lane, sections of Old SR 74, Eastgate Boulevard, top portions of the on- and off-ramps for SR 32, Bach Buxton Road, part of Marian Drive, Shephard Road, the Big Lots parking lot, the area around Men’s Wearhouse.
Unusual events included returning a shopping cart to Kroger and the “911 emergency call” about a trash “explosion” at Valley Wood Drive and Bach Buxton Road. (Okay, it was really a private message from a constituent on Nextdoor.)
I also began keeping a 5-gallon bucket and a trash grabber in my truck to frequently collect roadside trash “on the fly.”
2024 Summary
Beginning in October, I went out on 10 different occasions collecting roadside trash. The areas included Clepper Park, sections of Rumpke Road, sections of Old SR 74, Eastgate Boulevard, and Bach Buxton Road.

Union Township welcomes new and growing businesses

Some of the below may be pending trustee approval:

  • Permits have been issued for AutoZone to move into the old Big Lots building on Eastgate Boulevard. However, there is litigation among the land owners.
  • RLA Videogames, in the Eastgate Mall, is planning an expansion for table top game area.
  • The Shop (Rental Space for Sports Training) is coming to 1216 Clough Pike.
  • Tienda Minimart (Latin Grocery Store) is coming to 499 Old State Route 74 in Mt. Carmel.
  • Luxelle Studios (Salon) is coming to 1010 State Route 125 in Withamsville.
  • Panda Express is nearing completion next to the Union Township library and is expected to be open in August 2026.
  • Redwood is now in permitting to commence Phase II of their Tealtown Road project, originally approved to commence in Zoning Case #2-19-Z, approved in 2019. Work will commence once permits are received from both the Township and County, and clearing/grading work is expected to commence soon. Phase II consists of the remaining 62 units that were approved as part of the original project, as Phase I is completely built and occupied.
  • The old Applebee’s off Gleneste-Withamsville Road is being taken over by Tobala Cantina & Grill (4440 Gleneste-Withamsville Road).
  • Taqueria Nuevo Leon restaurant at Park Plaza is expanding their dining outdoors with a new patio (834 Ohio Pike).
  • The Rumpke facility located off of Round Bottom Road is now accepting “junk vouchers.” Two per household per year can be obtained at the new Services Garage located at 3919 Bach-Buxton Road.
  • UDF has received approval to construct a new, $10 million UDF along Bach Buxton Road, north of the Provision Living Campus. Permitting is anticipated to commence soon.
  • UDF submitted a plan to renovate and repurpose their former location along Gleneste-Withamsville Road, south of SR 32, which has been permitted and renovations are expected to commence soon. While no tenants have been identified, the owner plans to demise the space into two separate tenant spaces with significant renovations planned to the interior and exterior of the building.
  • The Loop Soft Serve Ice Cream Parlor has received a permit to open at 519 Old State Route 74, in Mt. Carmel, repurposing a former vacant liquor store and carry out structure.
  • Scander & Leo’s Pizzeria, is going in next to Teal Side Diner.
  • Construction activity has begun on BIBIBOP Asian Grill, First Watch, and a childcare center near Aldi in Eastgate.
  • The Cove, a 16,000 square-foot mixed-use commercial center, is adjacent to the roundabout at Eastgate Blvd. and Ferguson Drive. The building is intended to house retail space on the first floor, as well as a drive-thru area for a restaurant or coffee shop (on the west side of the building)—with office space planned for the second floor. Construction has begun and substantial completion is expected this year. Two businesses, consisting of a salon and office, have obtained occupancy permits through the Township. In addition, Scramblers, a breakfast/brunch-style restaurant has also received a permit.
  • Primrose School is under construction in Ivy Pointe north of Sharefax Credit Union.
  • The VA Clinic’s construction is nearly complete. It is located in Ivy Pointe north of Children’s Hospital. A ribbon cutting is expect to be scheduled soon. We are just waiting for confirmation from the landlord and VA regarding the ribbon cutting and final occupancy.
  • The old Glen Este High School site (approved by a prior Board of Trustees) consists of four projects either completed or under construction. When complete, about 1,150 units will be available. About a third of them are classified as “affordable housing.”
  • Honda East is expanding their operations in Cherry Grove. Construction has begun and completion of the new building is expected this year.
